The American Pet Products Association (APPA), a leading not-for-profit trade association serving the pet products industry, recently announced that overall spending in the U.S. pet industry for 2014 exceeded $58 billion (increased 4.2% from the previous year) on 397 million pets according to the NY Daily News.
Veterinary Care increased 4.7% to 15.04 billion from 14.37 billion in 2013. According to the APPA Annual Report, visits to veterinarians were unchanged or slightly decreased from the previous year but expenditures per visit increased as more expensive procedures grow in popularity.

– Supplies / OTC Medications: 13.75B (13.14B), +4.6%
– Other Services*: 4.84B (4.41B), +9.8%
– Live Animal Purchases: 2.15B (2.23B), -3.6%
Total Spending: 58.04B (55.72B), +4.2%
The “Other Services” category increased the fastest from the previous year and includes payments on grooming, boarding, walking, training, daycare and spa services.
