MAKE VETERINARY HEALTHCARE GREAT AGAIN™
As “the internet’s most trusted consumer advocate for pets,”™ we seek to empower pet owners to effect positive change in the pet care industry in order to make veterinary healthcare both affordable and great again. The acquisition of privately owned veterinary hospitals by corporate consolidators has accelerated over the last 5+ years. With the growing corporate influence in veterinary medicine, vet care costs are soaring and veterinarians are feeling more pressure to generate revenue and see more clients per shift.
Which vet practice you visit matters (independent versus corporate-owned). With industry consolidation, both pet owners and employees will have less choices as the vast majority of practices will be owned by a few large corporations. Corporate practices will not return to being independently owned again and may be irreversible unless consumers push back against industry consolidation — industry leaders rarely speak out against the pet care industry’s narratives.
- The State of Veterinary Corporatization
https://www.pets.care/corporatization-veterinary-medicine/- Veterinarians are more often managed by nonveterinary professionals from other multiunit entities who come with no understanding or experience of the pet medical care world. With this new management comes the push for veterinarians to care for an excessive number of pets per shift with strict cost control, which results in fewer staff to assist the veterinarian.
