A recently released study by Nationwide, the largest pet health insurance provider in the U.S., found that the price of veterinary services actually decreased over the past five years and counters U.S. government figures which indicate that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for veterinary inflation was at 15% according to VPI.
The study found that veterinary prices decreased by one percent over the five year study period (January 2009 thru December 2013).
Nationwide partnered with the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University to create the Nationwide | Purdue Veterinary Price Index which includes a dataset of more than 5.3 million pet health insurance claims and 17 million treatments from pet insurer, Veterinary Pet Insurance (a Nationwide Insurance company).
