The Idaho Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) which represents many veterinarians in the state has recently reached a new agreement with the Idaho Humane Society (IHS) which will limit or restrict the type of services offered to the public at its non-profit veterinary hospital according to KBOI-TV News.
Under the new deal, the Idaho Humane Society can only provide wellness care (such as annual exams or vaccinations) to low-income pet-owners who earn less than 75 percent of the median income in their county. However, emergency care, spay & neuter surgeries and microchipping will continue to be available to all pet-owners regardless of their stated income.
Other exemptions from income restrictions apply to IHS volunteers, employees, military personnel and government-owned animals.
The new agreement is scheduled to take effect in May, 2015.
The Idaho Humane Society plans to open a new larger veterinary hospital in spring 2017 at its new planned campus on West Overland Road and is currently raising money for the $11 million project.
