Investigation Spotlights Anesthesia Free Pet Dental Cleanings

A recent investigation by NBC4 I-Team in Southern California has found the use of Anesthesia Free Pet Dental Cleanings are producing mixed results and some complaints. The practice involves scaling (scraping with an instrument) of a dog or cat’s teeth without putting the pet under anesthesia.

Concerns over the expense and potential risks associated with general anesthesia including pet deaths has given rise to the popularity of anesthesia-free pet dental cleanings.

LACK OF TRANSPARENCY

As part of it’s investigation, the NBC4 I-Team submitted a Public Records Request to the California Veterinary Medical Board (VMB) which regulates veterinarians in order to find out the number of consumer complaints regarding both traditional and anesthesia-free pet dental cleanings but “the Board denied both requests, citing the need for the confidentiality of its investigations” according to NBC4 News.
