Mars Inc recently announced it’s successful acquisition of VCA Inc which operates over 800 animal hospitals in the U.S. and Canada, a nationwide clinical laboratory system (Antech Diagnostics), an animal diagnostic imaging company (Sound) and a Doggy Day and Overnight Camp franchise (Camp Bow Wow).
Mars received Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approval in late August. The mission of the FTC:
“working to protect consumers by preventing anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices, enhancing informed consumer choice and public understanding of the competitive process, and accomplishing this without unduly burdening legitimate business activity.”
The FTC requires Mars Inc to divest 12 specialty referral centers and or emergency hospitals from it’s portfolio of more than 1,900 veterinary practices in the U.S. and Canada.
